Nice Features and Included Natural Gas Line
By Allen G
Maryland
Purchased 02/26/2025 |
Review Posted 03/10/2025
I bought the Champion Tri-Fuel Inverter Generator to replace my old Powermate gasoline generator that I modified with a kit to run on natural gas.
The features that attracted me to the Champion were the standard Natural Gas capability, quieter operation, and more stable power of the inverter/generator.
The Champion included a necessary funnel and hose for filling the awkwardly located oil fill port. There is a convenient oil drain hose that is installed on the generator frame, so this design for emptying the oil is a nice convenience to help offset the inconvenience of having to keep track of the special hose and mini funnel for refilling. There is no space to directly add oil or use a standard funnel, so my fear is that I misplace the hose/mini funnel.
The quick connect hose for the gas line is fantastic. The gas supply end includes a ½” flare fitting. I had to purchase one reducer fitting to adapt the ½” quick connect hose to my outside ¾” natural gas shut off valve. It required a “3/4 MIP 1/2 FIP Bushing Brass” reducer. I found it at HD for $8.00.
I was impressed with the quieter operation of the new generator, though it is still quite loud. The generator/inverter was a key feature due to the more stable power supply for electronics and marginally less noisy operation. The batter start was a handy feature, though it will be important to utilize the manual disconnect when not starting for many months. My power outages are infrequent, so I hope the battery retains a charge for long periods when the batter is completely disconnected. There is a handy disconnect set of plugs that should not be difficult when holding a flashlight.
I utilize a ten-circuit transfer switch to run 90% of my house, including the blower for the gas furnace, but excluding the air conditioning compressor. Generator connection is with a 30 amp plug to an outdoor inlet and the natural gas connection is in the same location. My old natural gas connection was with a rubber hose and hose clamp requiring a screwdriver, so the quick connect will be handy in the dark and without the need for tools.

201176 Open Frame Portable Inverter

Shipped/delivered on-time to my home. Competive price. Great features, especially tri-fuel.Thorough documentaton/instructions. As a volunteer disaster responder (hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc) I know that, in a disaster situation, gas stations may not be able to either pump gas or accept electronic transactions. Propane and natural gas provide more opportunities to keep the lights on in these scenarios.

I live in Florida and the power goes out very often, especially during hurricane season. Already had several Champions products and found them to be very dependable and cost effective. Needed a inverter/generator that would keep the lights on and the freezer cold. The tri-fuel #201176 was just what my home needed dependable, great customer service at a great price. Thank you.

Great generator and a pleasure dealing with Electric Generators Direct. The only difficulty I encountered was the readout is different that the instruction book. I still have not been able to determine the power output from the display. The instruction book is somewhat different the the new model.

Just In Time For Hurricane Beryl
By John C
Texas
Purchased 05/21/2024 |
Review Posted 07/12/2024
I bought this generator a little over a month before Hurricane Beryl. Had a quick connected added an my NG meter and got a 50 foot 3/4 hose. Today is day 5 without power and have had no issues. We are running it 16-20 hours a day. When I first got it I ran it for 5 hours and changed the oil. I changed the oil today with over 90 hours of run time. No issues and very happy with this generator.

Champion INV/GEN
By Thomas M
North Carolina
Purchased 05/15/2024 |
Review Posted 06/17/2024
I purchased the Champion 201176 to replace my DeWalt 7000. This is backup to my home. The inverter/gen is what sold me. I will use it to charge my solar gen in the daytime and run the solar at night. It is running like a Champ on natural gas. But be informed. The unit follows the specs for natural gas. It must have WC of 5-8. My direct meter line was 7-11 WC and the unit would not start. Customer service worked with me for a weeks on the issue. Which was on my side. I found a Maxitrol regulator RV47 that reduce the pressure per the gen's specs. Started first time and now all is OK.

needed a generator that would provide clean power for standby in case of power loss. Voltage and frequency held tight just as I needed for sensitive equipment to include my high efficiency combi boiler. I was highly satisfied with the price of this unit, a good value.
