Awesome Generator!

Review Posted 10/25/2024
I purchased this at the tail end of hurricane Helene, of which we were without power for 10 days. I have a Briggs Elite 8kW/10kW that gave us lights and hot water, etc, but there are problems:
- It's LOUD
- It uses a fair bit of fuel (I did an LP conversion on it)... 3.5 - 4 days on a dual 100lb tank set up,running only during daylight hours plus a couple hrs in the evenings.
- Two days in, it fried the soft start I had installed for running the heat pump (compressor inrush went from 57A to 14A). So, no AC for the last 8 days of the outage.
I purchased the XP9500iH primarily for the clean power of an inverter, and secondly for the quietness. For break-in I went well beyond mfg recommendations, but I'm really funny when it comes to oil and break-in on small engines. Oil is cheap insurance. I used Honda 10W40 oil, and propane for break-in.
- 1st hour was unloaded (fuel saver off), and changed the oil.
- Hours 2 thru 5 were with a 900W load, and another oil change.
- Hours 5 thru 8 had a smaller load (convenience), and a final oil change.
This gen is MUCH quieter than typical open frame gens, and I feel confident that it isn't going to damage my new soft start. I am taking the water heater off of the normal gen feed, and will use the old Briggs gen to heat water as needed during an emergency to isolate from all electronics, soft start, etc.
Gasoline will never be used in this gen, LP only (unless an emergency dictates otherwise. I have four 100lb tanks in reserve. This gen was still running (lightly loaded) at 8 hours on a 20lb tank, So I won't feel bad about running it around the clock, especially with it being so quiet. A gen tent is on the way.
Do I recommend? Heck yes!
