The handle and wheels were easy to assemble and on initial break ran no load for 30 minutes. This is a beast of a generator can run a whole house.

I’ve had this generator for about three years. Powers a large home with two separate meters. No issues so far. Had a ‘no crank’ issue early on but the fault was mine. Have to start it, let it run for twenty minutes at least every month to charge the battery. I’m now starting every two/ three weeks. Not as convenient as the automatic whole house units out there but for half the money and more power. I don’t mind plugging in a couple cords / throwing a couple switches. Very happy with it.

This generator has powered my house with 4 circuits, 2 fridges, pool pump, and many electronics for hours, with no strain. Definitely loud when running but thats expected. Getting it set up wasnt that bad, took a couple of guys a hour or so. (Not including house wiring)

Generac is a great product and we have little to say negatively about this generator in general. The issue is the unwillingness of Electric Generators Direct and Generac to satisfactorily resolve a major problem. The generator does not work. Communicating with EGD and Generac, neither was willing to assist us. We were told the only resolution was to take the generator to an electrician for repair at our own cost.

Did Not Work Out Of The Box
Customer Service Lacking

New 17500 with less that 10 hours on it and was run once a month to break it in. Ran fine the last run then all of a sudden would try to start and wouldn’t run. Called customer service and they were no help in trying to diagnose the problem. Told me I needed to take it in to approved service center. I told him that this was a 400 lb plus unit and that wasn’t going to be easy. Was told that’s what I had to do and gave me a couple of places that were Generac approved.

Looked them up on the internet and they were basically lawn mower repair and had horrible reviews. I ended up trying to figure it out myself on the internet and found the relay switch I needed to replace and did it myself. I realize parts fail but be prepared to figure it out yourself or be prepared for a lot of unneeded hassle. So I ended up paying for a part I shouldn’t have due to warranty but it was cheaper and less hassle in the end.

Product Won't Start, Right Out Of Box
By David C

Review Posted 09/23/2022
I ordered a new generator in hopes to avoid inconvenience during power loss. Did my research and found the Generac 17500 would hold up without any issues and accomplish our needs during power outages. However, the thing won’t start. I had my technician, who is setting up my outlet and panel breaker call it in. They said they’d send the part….in up to 10 days?! This thing wasn’t cheap and they make you jump through hoops after you spend your money. Not the best experience. Shop local. They can relieve your headaches and take ownership of your problems more timely and accurately

New Generator for Hurricane Season
By Matt F
Texas
Review Posted 08/05/2022
I had a 10KW generator and sold it with our old house, so looked for an upgrade that would run the entire house we have, this one fit the bill. We don't have gas in our neighborhood and don't have a place for a propane tank, after our last Hurricane those services were not available, so a gas generator is what we needed.

This thing is fairly large, and I will say like others when it's delivered, be prepared as it comes on a pallet and you have to be able to lift each end to assemble to wheels and front foot mount. I'm fortunate that I have a Jeep with a winch and a tree big enough to hook onto the top lifting eye and raise it up off the pallet to assemble the wheel kit. So be prepared and have some help, you don't want to tip it over (it's heavy).

I do wish it stated the exact amount of oil to add, as the dipstick is a bit difficult to read with new oil. I did a search online to find how many ounces, but what I found seemed to overfill it, but it was easy with the drag hose to drain it down to proper level. My neighbors really liked it as well and will be looking into purchasing one. I'm hoping I never have to use it but with the world the way it is, we'll be prepared! They do send an extra set of filters for it which is great.

One other thing I did right off the bat was replace the wheels & tires (they are pneumatic) with Hard/Solid tires from Amazon, the pneumatic tires tend to lose air over time and because of the weight it sags in the back end, so oil level may show differently.

I was interested in buying the Generac GP17500E. I did my homework and believe it is the one for me. The questions I have are: 1. Can I convert it to propane? 2. How long will a 15lb propane tank last on this generator if I'm not powering the whole house and just the bare necessities? Thank you Ryan

The GENERAC GP17500 Watts electric generator has two 240V outlets on generator panel. One is 50AMP 240 V and other is 30AMP 240V. I bought this generator for its 17,500 rated Watts capacity. Therefore, I should be able to utilize the rated watts output to provide me power in the house. My electrician mentions that he will provide the manual transfer switch and receptacle to connect 50AMP 240 V generator out put to the connecting house receptacle via the 50Amp 240 V generator cord. I wanted to know from you if it is possible to use generators 30AMP 240 V receptacle to connect with 2nd receptacle for the house via the transfer switch to the electric water heater which is all independent circuit which is connected via the home circuit breaker with a 240V line. It is a 40gallon water heater tank. Its individual double circuit breaker shows two 15AMP switch. Your help in this will be appreciated. I dont mind the extra charges for connecting the 2nd receptacle of 30AMP 240V circuit that can be tapped from the same manual transfer switch. If yes, how it can be done subject to the approval of meeting the electrical code requirements. If not, what can be done to utilize this extra power to provide juice to my 40 gallon Hot Water tank during the power outage.

Hello, I was wondering if you buy a large generator like this and want to hook it up directly to the panel of a house to get maximum wattage capability, how do you do this? I currently have a 50 amp plug that goes into my box, and I see there is a 50 A outlet on this machine....But how to you maximize the full amperage output into the box? Thank you.
