Generac is the only manufacturer that offers a 22kW air-cooled home standby generator. This unit is unlike any home standby currently available and is far below the price of a comparable liquid-cooled model.
This model replaces the 7043 and is basically the same except it now includes Mobile Link Wi-Fi remote monitoring. It is equipped with a 5-year warranty and has all of the features and functionality that customers have come to expect from the number one standby generator manufacturer. Generac, through strategy and innovation, has broken the value barrier that seemed immovable.
Generac engineers took a multi-faceted approach to innovation to break this value barrier. A breakthrough engine and alternator combination was developed, utilizing the latest in high-tech Powertrain technology to help achieve a record-breaking 22kW output level. This unit also boasts an even quieter QuietTest mode by operating at 1950 rpm, versus the standard QuietTest rpm of 2400. This feature allows it to consume less fuel during the bi-weekly exercise and is even more lot-line friendly due to the reduced sound outputs.
The included 200-Amp service-entrance automatic transfer switch features load shedding, which allows you to manage two central AC's. When it doesn't, it keeps the essentials going and locks out the luxuries.

We've had our Generac 22kw generator since December 2015 and it's always been there in our time of need for power. Our latest outage lasted for 110 hours straight. The generator worked flawlessly, I'm a Mechanical Engineer and I highly recommend this generator.

Pros:
I'd Buy It Again, High Quality, Reliable, Exceeded Expectations
Cons:
The only issue is the air intake where the battery is located. In a blizzard the fan draws snow in along with the air. It will pack this area tight with snow and eventually cause the air filter to clog with snow stopping the engine. Easy fix, I place a

Just install recently. Very nice unit. Very glad to have it. Great pricing compared to other options. Taking off 1 star since the top lid does not close properly. Right end of the top cover does not latch well. You have to press it down hard to get key to turn and open the right top end. Left side is fine. It works, but this issue is annoying and I wonder if top lid got warped somehow in shipment or in delivery to home site.
Getting the Generac WiFi to link to my home WiFi was difficult/tricky, but eventually got it to connect and the APP to work.

I have been installing generators since 2011 and stopped counting after 150 units installed!I can tell you from experience, that Generac doesn't typically fail, and they can have problems, nothing in this world is perfect!
We have had units that had factory defects, which were all taken care of without a question from the local factory certified contractor.
Generac has one of the best parts and warranty programs in the business, when someone says, they can't find parts, that's an outright lie. When I became a service dealer, it was mandatory to buy 2500 dollars worth of parts, just to have them in stock. Not to mention, the vast network of internet suppliers we now have, who all order factory direct and parts arrive in 3 days!
Out of all the Generacs, I've installed, we only had 2 that had issues within the first month, they were the 17kw unit and the 14kw units, which were less popular, both units were replaced with brand new units after the 3rd attempt to be fixed, exactly, like Generac promises! If you have any doubts, buy the 10 year warranty, no one has a better warranty in the business!! No one.As a technician, I can tell you, that Kohler, which has hydraulic lifters, which, would be the only thing, I'd change on a generac, outside of that, I believe, that Generac systems are simpler and better, than any other, they are easier to troubleshoot and maintain.
Cummins uses plastic in their transfer switches, which will break eventually, that's literally the first stage between the utility and your house and I see those switches, get brittle and snap into pieces in cold weather all the time. Generac uses all metal parts in their transfer switches, the only thing, we experience, are blown up transfer coils, usually caused by lightning strikes, but the transfer mechanisms, never fail.
The second most common issues, are low oil levels, from technicians not checking or using OEM filters and oil, these engines are built to last, but without oil, they will cease just like any other....
Outside of these typical service calls, we occasionally get an older unit, that has bad springs on the throttle body, that's a know issue with Generac, the most severe issues, are too rare to note. I hope this helps make an informed buying decision.

Great generator However, installation even though seemed pretty easy instructions incomplete It took electrician several days and many phone calls to Generac to figure out why battery recharge didn’t work It was an off hand call I made that tipped us off Seems that the new generators, from Jan 24 on, have an added line T1 neutral that is a seventh wire not included but it’s on the generator So, to avoid the headache have installer look to see about the added T1 neutral line after that is in everything works great. Highly recommend this 22kw gen first time it took the power outage it was so fast and smooth no one noticed except the fact that the gen was running switch took less than 3 seconds Truly amazing

Outstanding generator. Install was easier than I thought. Had separate electrician and plumber. Both did a great job and generator fired up first try. On board programming was easy, however, the wifi is not compatible with home wifi if not 2.4 Gz Doesn't need wifi or phone, but that is a feature you loose with out the 2.4 Gz signal. Can disregard it or buy a wifi extender in the 2.4 Gz range. Without a doubt would recommend this generator and this company. Just a fantastic sales crew.

Review Posted 03/11/2024
I recently had the Generac Guardian 22kW generator installed at my property, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the performance and installation process. Right from the start, everything worked exactly as expected, living up to the high standards Generac is known for. The generator has been a reliable source of backup power, seamlessly kicking in whenever there's been an outage. It's comforting to know that I can count on this generator to keep my home running smoothly in any weather or unexpected power failure.
The 22kW capacity is more than enough to power essential appliances and even some extras, ensuring that daily life goes on uninterrupted. One of the standout aspects of this generator was the installation process. It was clear that Generac has designed these units with ease of installation in mind. My electrician was able to complete the setup without any hiccups, commenting on how straightforward the entire process was. This not only saved time but also made it a hassle-free experience for me as a homeowner.
The Generac Guardian 22kW generator has proven to be an excellent investment for my home. Its reliable performance, ease of installation, and quiet operation are its standout features. I highly recommend it to anyone in need of a dependable backup power solution. It's clear that Generac has put a lot of effort into designing a generator that meets the needs of modern homeowners, and it shows.
