I don't know what the ground wire is for. All the others I have see don't have one bur I hooked it up to the ground terminal on the front panel. I really liked the spark plug wire connection. The double sided tape did not stick to the tach.

I bought the Honda EU3000is1 Generator/Inverter. Access to the spark plug wire was very limited. Was able to get the clip attached for the meter with a lot of struggle because the space was so tight. Taking the clip off and wrapping the wires would have been difficult as well.
Once installed the meter works fine. Was disappointed that there is not a battery available for change-out as it appears once the unit goes dead a new one will have to be ordered.

The accessory did everything I wanted. The doubled sided tape provided would not adhere to the back of the device.
I even tried coating the back with some JB Weld, but that popped right off too. I did not want to drill holes in my brand new EU2200, so I tied a loop of nylon twine through the screw holes and then over the neck of the fuel fill.
Works fine. I am going to try it with my Generac pressure washer and it works, I will order a second meter to use with that.

I got this for my eu1000i Generator, which has less space inside than the 2000, so I had to mount it on the outside. I tried to use the double back tape, but the combination of it not being very strong as well as the lack of a flat surface on the back of the product made it so that it was barely holding.
However, after purchasing some small screws, washers, and nuts, I was able to secure it through 2 drilled holes near the carrying handle. It was a little challenging to start the threads, as you're working blindly inside the unit, but with some tape to hold the nut and washer together (and ultimately to my finger), it worked out nicely.
Like another reviewer, I had to use one of my own zip ties, as the one provided was a little too short.
It read exactly 5500 RPM at full speed, which is what the generator is rated for, and showed .2 hours of runtime after running it for 15 minutes.
Ultimately the install is a tiny bit more work than it should have been, and it would be nice if they would have included hardware for mounting it, but it seems to be a solid product.

Nice meter. Nice overall quality. Easy to install on the EU3000is Honda I had purchased.
The difficult part was finding a suitable and reasonable mounting location. To add to that problem, the double sided mounting tape supplied with the meter, did not adhere to the resin backed meter assembly. I would have simply mounted it to the fuel tank exterior just inside the access door to the engine room.
I ended up fabricating a simple aluminum mounting bracket and securing it to a screw just inside the access door. I'm handy and enjoy the challenge of making something. Others may seek a quicker solution and purchase some heavy duty Velcro tape at the hardware and use it instead of the supplied tape.
I consider an hour meter a must have option for any generator set or small engine for that matter. More precise scheduled maintenance can be performed as a result for those who are maintenance minded. Maintains resale value of the generator as well.
Some patience is needed to secure the sensor to the spark plug wire and closing the zip tie. Space was tight in my unit. I prevailed with small needle nose pliers.
There is also the option to not utilize tape and use screws for mounting. You will have to purchase these two screws at your local hardware store.
I'm very pleased with this product. I think you will be too.

The Honda EU2200i has indicator lights that give you an idea of how many hours it has been run, but I wanted something more precise. Originally, I thought to mount the meter on the outside of the generator and decided to put it inside the case. The meter has some foam sticky tape on it and I positioned it on the bottom of the case so that it is visible to the right of the oil fill port. The wire to the spark plug was easy to rout through the motor. The zip tie supplied was not long enough to capture the spark plug wire connector, so I bought another one.

Simple product, easy to install and use. I decided to use the double sided tape and tape it to the inside of the maintenance cover. I cut small slots in one of the ribs to route the wires. 5.8 hours later, and the double sided tape is still holding the unit in place.

I installed this meter in about a hour. The only reason it took so long is because I didnt like where I had it mounted in the first spot so I had to explore a little for a secondary option. I ended up mounting it to the I take tubes. It does put a little pressure on the cover so I might end up grinding a little bit of the back side of the cover. Over all it was a very easy install and works perfectly. I highly reccomend if you want to get track of your hours for maintenance or resale.

The unit is easy to install. The tech and run hour meters should be included in the generator panel. Not a separate unit and accessory. It is nice to have the tech and run hour data.
