Satisfies NEC 445.18B For AIR Cooled Generators

First, let me make it clear, this product is NOT just for liquid cooled generators as its title suggests. In fact, this device was actually shown (with this very part number) in the Kohler manuals that accompanied the Kohler 14kW generator that I purchased recently. I understand it also works with Kohler’s 20kW generator, which has controls similar to the 14kW unit. This switch is installed in series with the prime-mover kill switch that exists inside the generator enclosure, and satisfies NEC 445.18B requirements for a readily accessible emergency shutdown switch.
Because the prime-mover kill switch is located inside the generator enclosure, which may be locked, emergency responders would not have access to the kill switch. This switch, mounted outside the enclosure, provides an accessible means of shutting down the generator. And, it includes the ability to lock the switch in the shut-down position, which satisfies the second paragraph of NEC 445.18B, which says a lock-out capability on the shut-down switch is an acceptable alternative for the disconnect switch required by NEC 445.18A.
