Whole House Service On A Budget

I recently installed one of these for a customer. Several years ago I had installed one for myself. It’s just the ticket for a 100 amp service. With a 7500-10,000 watt portable generator you can run your whole house except for heavy 240 v. Appliances.

Not Happy
By Paul

When I ordered this unit I expected it to run properly. When I started it it kept surging. When I called for information, the help line had no answers and refereed me to a dealer in Billerica which is to far from my home for them to send anyone to check it out. The person that I talk to said that it probably is the gas, I have changed the gas to no avale. The person also said I would have to bring the unit to them for them to check it out, since I have no way to get it to them, what good is the two year warranty. If there is no one to fix it. When I bought the unit I was not told that if there was a problem that I would have to transport it to have the problem solved. I hope that the company will find me a solution. If not, I can not recommend this unit or company.

Very Satisfied

Received Generac Model XG10000E on Monday Sep 19, 2011, had received 10' 50 amp power cord, inlet box and Reliance 100 amp indoor transfer switch approximately 1 weeks earlier. Didn't receive generator earlier as it was on backorder.
Electrician came over, looked at electrical configuration of the house (I have 200 amp input from street, with one breaker box in garage which handles in-law apartment and then sends 100 amp service to breaker box in cellar which powers main house). Electrician explained need for 200 amp transfer switch due to 200 amp feed from street. The generator is hooked up temporarily to garage breaker box until either he or I get 200 amp transfer switch.
But, as for the operation of the generator - works great! Powers everything I need during a loss of power - my only regret is that I should have gotten a bigger one and I would have more of a cushion if it were needed.

Love Love LOVE IT

This is a very economical way to turn a sub-panel into your generator panel.
Per National Electrical Code, the USER gets to define what is being energized via the generator. So, you can pick and choose what circuits you want on, so long as it does not overload the capacity of your generator (including start up).
I LOVE THIS TRANSFER PANEL. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. If you are in doubt, I have over 20 years electrical experience, just check out my credentials at www.electricalplanreview.com

Product Questions
Answered by Jared, the Generator Expert
Hi Josh,
I'm not sure what is meant by single load. Does this mean a single load which could be "the house" or does mean a single leg of a 220 feed. Or to put it another way is this a SPDT or DPDT transfer switch?

I have a Honda EB5000X generator and I would like to know what transfer switch you would recommend I use. I know I can not run my whole home but I would like to be able to turn some things on and off as needed.
