Website Description And Photo Of Product Insufficient

The photograph is misleading. It doesn’t show the power inlet plug. The switch is rated for 20 amps but I did not expect that the male plug supplied would have the “sideways” plug supplied. Now I have to find and buy a replacement plug or an adapter. Reliance should either show the plug in the online photo, show the plug diagram or supply both the straight blade and sideways plug with the switch. I’d like to give a positive review, but I haven’t been able to use it yet, based on the above. If reliance would send the straight plug (call it 15 amp if you like) I’d be happier.

Listed Furnace Transfer Switch

Good Quality. I would prefer a “stiffer” rocker switch that “snaps” in each position. It is easy to bypass the OFF position located in the middle. Supply-and-demand for a device that has little competition must contribute to higher than expected cost for a product with simple design and components. Device has been installed but a few days, thus it is too early to evaluate reliability. Unfortunately, quality components are difficult to find, with this manufacturer having done about as well as can be expected in this day of China-made junk.

Simple Single-circuit 20A Transfer Switch
By Chad C.

Review Posted 08/11/2019

I bought this to go along with a Honda EU2000i gen so my wife could use them in the event I'm not home to power our fridge and a couple of outlets. Item arrived in perfect condition.
Be aware this is a 20amp switch with a 5-20 plug (one blade horizontal). I was able to get a nice 25' 20amp cord from the 'Jungle' store for $30. Also, I prefer to 'tin' the ends of stranded wire with solder to prevent wire-crush prior to installing them in screw-type connections like those found in an electrical box.
Pros: Heavy duty unit. Simple and safe.
Cons: I didn't care for the flex conduit nor the bottom hole location, so I had to plug the bottom and drill the hole in a better location using a Rotabroach bit. Also, being the box is in my garage and on the refrigerator circuit, I'll probably build a guard to protect the switch from getting inadvertently bumped to the off position.

Received before expected. Simple installation. Thinking of getting a 15 amp. for the furnace. Only negative is I wish the switch was a true double throw switch. It is a single throw switch through the three positions.

Best Generator Transfer Switch
By Carl G.
Birmingham, Michigan

Review Posted 09/22/2014
I was looking for a simple, safe transfer switch to toggle my furnace over to the generator that even my wife could operate. This product is well designed and the perfect solution for that light load duty.
Minor cons:
- The kit was missing a conduit collar ring on end that connects to transfer/junction box
- This ships with a 20-amp plug that does NOT fit the typical extension cord (on of the blades is horizontal). This is different than both the website picture and how I interpreted the text. While easy to fix by splicing a new plug on an extension cord, my goal was to avoid having a dedicated extension cord for this use and the company was kind enough to ship me the standard plug outlet.
Nice responsive customer service and quick shipping on both original order and the replacement plug.
