The Fabulous Subaru SGX-5000

This Subaru SGX-5000 Generator is a great source of security at a reasonable price. In the event of a power outage, it can allow us to use our well pump, keep our refrigerator cold, or use a small heater. It can provide power to both 120 and 240 volt circuits. The recoil starter makes it easy for even us "old folks" to start. The 5.28 gal. fuel tank allows it to run up to 12 hours. And we can even take it out to the "back 40" to use our electric chain saw for clearing. We are 100% pleased with its performance!

We purchased our generator for a trip where we would have no hook-ups for our trailer/camper. The other alternative for the event we were attending was a hotel room at a conference center. The lowest price room was $214.00(not including room/hotel taxes) Our savings for the eight day event paid for the generator and then some. It kept our AC and all of our amenities running smoothly. We will be attending many more such events for my wife's business, so we need an efficient, quiet, and dependable generator and our Subaru is perfect for us.

I have about 40 hours on mine, it powers my whole house (4bd 2ba cape, no electric appliances, no well) thru a power inlet box with plenty of power to spare.
I love that this is a brush type alternator... delivers clean power. Starting is a breeze and I love the drain screw at bottom of the carb so the motor can truly be run out of gas with ease... great design.
It's a great generator for those looking for something just below Honda/Yamaha class but for far less $$.
Just to clarify because there are multiple spec sheets on this: the SGX5000 takes a 30 amp plug on it's 240 outlet... not 20 amp.

I had recently purchased this generator as a all-purpose generator. I do electrical work and often am in a area that has no power so a generator is essential.
I also use this generator for my camper and I'm going to set it up to run my house in an emergency. This unit starts on the first pull every time. It is a gas sipper as well.
I needed to be able to recharge my cordless tools and this works perfectly with clean power. Not sure of the sine wave signature on it but the alternator seems to be top notch. I would buy it again and have recommended this generator to friends.
It's the best generator available for the money...

Bought this Subaru just under a year ago after the October snowstorm, along with a 6 circuit transfer switch to power our furnace fans, freezer, fridge, some lights and outlets.
Just used it properly for the first time after Sandy hit - it got us through 6 days without power.
Started up first time, every time with no problem. Seems to be very efficient - I got it to run for 21 hours continuously on a single tank.
Solid construction and very reliable so far. It's our first generator, so can't really compare with anything else, but we're very happy with it.

Easy assembly. Well made. Large, inflatable tires and fold down handle make mobility and storage easy.
I ran it for 43 hours non-stop when Hurricane Sandy hit me, and it powered the whole house no problem. It used about 10 gallons of gas a day to run it.
I am a very happy camper over here.

Easy assembly. Well made. Large, inflatable tires and fold down handle make mobility and storage easy.
It powers AC, water pump, water heater and inside/outside lights on a large horse trailer with living quarters, and I have power to spare. A bit on the noisy end of the spectrum, but the noise can be buffered.
I had some worry regarding pull start vs. electric start, but not any more. It has started with the first pull every time.
I presently carry the compressor in the rear of my pickup and unload it as necessary. Two men can easily lift it onto a 3/4 ton, 4 wheel drive vehicle.
Thus far we are very pleased with this product. Ask me again in 12 months after a better test.
It was a good decision to purchase this product!

Great Baseline Generator

Bought this after the Friday night storm that hit a hugh area, 6/29/12, because I knew we would be out of power for at least a week. I had an electrician hook it up to our circuit panel, then started testing how much of the house we could run. Was amazed at how much it did, with only a 4500 rated watts, 4900 surge watts output, it ran the 3ton central air unit (still shocked it kicked over), 6 ceiling fans, fridge/freezer, light switches, and water pump. Basically all the essentials, kept our house cooled at 80 (was in the 100's with heat index most the week) with running water, cold but running! Was a great little generator, would recommend for anyone else that wants a reliable, reasonably priced generator. Also it got roughly 12 hours on a tank of gas with the load we were running, never stalled or kicked off with all we had on it.
