First, let’s talk power. Alone, this unit provides 9,000 running watts and 11,000 starting watts using gasoline, which is impressive. Amazingly, you can double that by connecting it to a second iGen11000DFc. Now we’re talking about 18,000 running watts of power! Plus, it has an Eco Mode that adjusts engine RPM based on generator load to save fuel.

That amount of power makes this unit great for everything from RVs, to emergency backup, to food trucks. It’ll run up to 12 hours at 50% load, and you can even start it remotely from up to 109 yards away. A 14-50R 50-amp plug lets you get maximum power from this generator, although 5-20R and L14-30R plugs are also included.

The Westinghouse iGen11000DFc is surrounded by a noise-canceling double-insulated enclosure that reduces its noise to 64 dB. Safety features include carbon monoxide (CO) and low oil sensors that shut the unit down if there are unsafe CO levels or not enough oil in the engine. The telescoping handle and 10-inch wheels make it easy to move.

Overall, this is as large as good inverter generators come, and you won’t regret your purchase.

Using this economy mode, you can run the generator for 7.5 hours on less than 1 gallon of fuel.

If you find yourself needing more power, you have the option of buying two EU2200i generators and running them together with a parallel cable. Surge wattage is the extra, temporary wattage a generator can produce to start electric motors. Running wattage is how much wattage the generator can produce long term. We also consider parallel capability or whether the inverter can be linked with another one to double the power.

Inverter Generator FAQs

What is the Difference Between a Conventional Generator and an Inverter?

Unlike traditional portable generators, inverters use a built-in computer to stabilize the power produced by the generator. We call this "cleaning up" the power because it prevents the surges in voltage and frequency variations common in traditional generators. This allows you to safely plug in sensitive electronic devices, like smartphones and computers, into the inverter without worrying about causing them damage.

Besides providing more stable power, portable inverter generators also operate more efficiently than traditional generators. They can adjust their engine speed depending on the power demand. For example, if you are only powering one item, the engine will run more slowly than if you needed to power two, which saves energy. Traditional generator engines run at one speed, no matter how much or how little power is needed.

Inverter generators also have a closed frame over the engine. The insulated frame muffles the engine sounds, which is why inverter generators are significantly quieter than traditional portable units. What are Inverter Generators Used for?

Due to their generally lower power output, inverter generators aren't typically used for emergency home backup unless you're paralleling two of them or have a particularly high-wattage one. Instead, they're perfect for powering nearly any recreational hobby you can think of, including:

That's not to say you can't use them at all for home backup. You can absolutely use an inverter generator to power necessities during a power outage, and certain models can even connect to a manual transfer switch.

 

What does it mean to parallel generators?

To parallel two generators means to connect them with cables for double the power output. Those generators are then said to be running "in parallel." Since inverter generators are usually less powerful than their open-frame counterparts, pairing two of them can help make up the gap.

However, you can't parallel any two generators. In many cases, you can only connect two generators of the same brand and model. If you are able to pair two different inverter generators, you need to make sure they have the same amperage and voltage.
