Three-Phase Commercial Buyer's Guide
How to Pick the Perfect Three Phase Commercial Generator
You're one of the big guys. You require three-phase power to run your equipment, and a single-phase generator just won't do.
Chances are you have motors that need to be started. It's necessary to use a three-phase generator for motors, heaters, and other large machinery.
It's also important to make sure you select the correct 3-phase voltage, such as 120v/208v, 120v/240v, or 277v/480v.
But the search doesn't end here. Make sure to carefully consider your fuel choices based on what's readily available, safest, and cleanest burning.
Select a Fuel Type Liquid Propane - LP generators are made to run on liquid propane vapor. They can be attached directly to a liquid propane tank for simple, clean, and quiet operation. LP has a long shelf life, is clean burning, and can be stored in large tanks. During power outages, when gas stations may not be able to pump gas, liquid propane tends to be readily available. Natural Gas - You don't have to refuel a natural gas generator. It's continuously fed through your existing source. It's clean burning, readily available during power outages, and doesn't require a fuel tank. However, in a natural disaster such as an earthquake, the lines could be damaged, disabling use of your generator. They typically output less power, and aren't available in all areas. Diesel - Diesel is the least flammable fuel source, making it the safest to store, but it has a shorter shelf life around 18-24 months. They can be less expensive to operate, and the fuel can be easily obtainable in a disaster because it's an important fuel for military, truckers, and farmers. Some locations have very strict installation requirements so it is recommended to contact your local inspector or Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for your local code requirements. |
