Generac 10000E & Gen-Tran 50A 10-Foot Power Cord

Good Buy. Very Heavy-Duty Cord. good secure fit when connected to the generator. Generac 10000E is a quality generator but make sure u know when you buy it it is a bonded ground. If you plan on using this for a whole house power operation you will need to deal with this. It is very easy but be for warned. Arrival was smooth and once you unbolt genny from pallet it is easy to jockey around and attach the wheel kit. Generac put the wheels in the exact right place because it balances perfectly. You would never know it weighs 300 lbs.
I had the same problem as so many others with the sticking handle. Tried lube and working it but no good. Took the whole thing apart cleaned off the lube and polished it with a Dremel tool. It is fine now but is surprising for such a fine piece of equip to have this recurring problem. Added oil get yourself a dedicated funnel with a long tube because filling spot is out of way. Hooking up battery is a lot easier if you take off battery hold down. Also the mounting bolts are attached to cables which are tucked into genny body so at first you think 1/2 the hardware is missing. Pulled choke and the beast fired up immediately. They do not tell you but you have to have the 50 amp breaker on to send power to all of the sockets. You would think keep this off if your not using it but know it shuts down all plugs. Machine runs great.
Overall a good experience. Note received 50 amp Generac plastic junction box. It is a little flimsy. You have to realize the 50 amp power cord is super heavy duty. Locking it into the plastic box makes you feel like u are going to break it. I removed the 3 small screws which hold the plug to the box and replaced them with small locking bolts. This definitely helped some. Next time i would order a beefier box. I like the idea of plastic but it need to be more Heavy Duty. Machine has power to spare. Also added a 50 amp power meter it is nice but meters should be bigger so they would be easier to read, and it needs longer power leads. That's all for now.

Power Backup Ready

We lost power in a bad storm back in July. It took the power company 6 days to get it back.
So, I ordered the 17500 Generac and the recommended accessories. It took awhile to install because of my work schedule and the fact that we wanted it in the barn. I ran an underground 2 AWG cable from the barn, to the house, to the TWB2005DR; then had the local electric guys run the meter to the TWB2005DR, then back to my main panel.
I installed the outdoor 50 amp transfer box that the genny plugs into, in the barn. I also installed a 1400 cfm through-the-wall fan, and plugged it into the genny. As soon as the genny comes on, the fan starts venting the exhaust (note: the barn is not totally enclosed).
I put oil in it, fired it up and ran the house for at least 30 minutes. no problem. I had a nice smooth 245 volts at the panel in the house. I am very satisfied with what I have seen so far.
I know this Generator will get us through any power outage. Electric Generators Direct has been very helpful- I am going to buy my accessories from here in the future.
