Faulty AVR - Real Headache

We got our EcoGen 14kW in Spring 2017. By Fall 2018 we were having issues - not starting due to "VCSF Comms Loss, Error 1083". Technicians came out twice under warranty and ended up replacing Automatic Voltage Regulator. Technician said EcoGen series had proved to be unreliable because AVR was overly sensitive. Problem is that this is a $2000 component. Anyway, 2nd AVR started playing up within 1 month after replacement. I can now get it to work about 50% of the time, - hardly acceptable for an off-grid environment. I will be replacing it. Understand Geneac have now (quietly?) discontinued at least some of EcoGen series.

We purchased the ecogen because it is advertised for off grid living. Well obviously Generac doesn't have a clue about what "off grid " means. After only 6mos the alternator went. And over the course of 2yrs we have had to replace the rotor and stater 5 times! Also the AVR on the unit 2 times!!
We are now done with our warranty and still paying on the machine. Generac refuses to acknowledge that this machine is a lemon!! They will not replace it or refund our money. They just say "sorry your on your own". Big mistake!

We love the efficiency and quietness of the Eco Gen. The precious generator we owned (not a Generac) was nowhere in the class of this one. We have recommended this to others that are completely off the grid like we are. Thank you Generac for developing such an awesome product.

Continual Problems with EcoGen15kW

I currently have my second, replacement EcoGen 15k. My first one failed after one month. After about four futile months, the Generac Service provider obtained a replacement for me.
The second one has been repaired about four times, only to fail each time after short periods of time. It currently has been non-working for four months. My authorized Generac Service Provider informed me that they could do nothing more, informing me that I should deal with Generac directly. No response to an email a phone call to the Generac customer support person provided by the service provider results in a recorded message: "This phone number does not have a mailbox setup for it." In the past, I've tried to go through customer support via telephone, only to wait 45 or more minutes each time with only unfulfilled promises given.
My conclusion is that Generac is a sales organization that devotes scarce resources to its customers. I am left with a non-working $4,000+ generator under warranty for another year, no authorized service person to work on it, and no response from my attempts to contact Generac directly.

I got the 16 KW model when they first came out back in the fall of 2014. We have a 15 KW off grid solar system and our Kohler 15 KW kept on killing its $600.00 controller board. We are almost 1000 hours on the Generac and the unit has run great on propane. We are at an elevation of 6200 Ft and noticed the Generac unit operate at 2 to 3 KW higher than the Kohler unit.
I have kept the Kohler as a spare but think I may replace it with another Ecogen 15 KW

This is my second Generac off grid generator. My other Generac was becoming a problem due to an oil leak which couldn't be located by technicians. I bought this one as a primary and have retained my older Generac as backup. The new one stopped working after a month displaying an error code of 1061. The installer has not been able to check and resolve the problem. Hopefully it is correctable. If it can be corrected I would be pleased to change my review.
